The Student Success Plan has taken the place of Continual School Improvement. This is simply a name change with the philosophies and objectives of the process remaining the same.
Here at CDS we are working to improve our student's in the areas of Literacy and Cultural awreness.
By the end of the 2016-17 school year, 75% of students at Cobequid District Elementary School will be meeting expectations in Language Use and Organization in ELA writing as determined by School, CCRSB, and Provincial assessment results.
We are currently in our third year of the process and our second year of implementation. We have been participating in Literacy specific PD, accessing Literacy Mentor support, engaging students in the writing process by initiating a "Spotlight on Writing" wall in our Library just to name a few things that are taking place. Teachers also have the opportunity to analyze and track data each term to inform their instruction in the areas of focus.
By the end of the 2016-17 school year, 50 % of students at Cobequid District Elementary School will demonstrate a competent knowledge of the diverse cultures in society as determined by School based student surveys.
Students and staff spend time each month highlighting a specific culture or aspect of a culture to increase our students' cultural awareness. Last year we were very fortunate to host a teacher from Korea for six weeks. This was a wonderful learning opportunity for both the staff and students. There is also a culture presentation each month during our monthly assemblies. Lat year we hosted a Culture Fair that was very well attended by the community and we hope to host a similar event this year with a different theme but focussing on various cultures.
As the process continues we will keep you up to date with our progress and where we are in terms of meeting our end goal in the monthly newsletters and during SAC meetings each month.
